Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup half-and-half or milk
1/2 cup butter or shortening
1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract (double-strength recommended)
5 eggs
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or a 13x9-inch sheet cake pan.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk and shortening at low speed with an electric mixer until moistened. Add vanilla and egg whites; continue beating for 2 minutes.
Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes (round pans) or 35-40 minutes (sheet cake pan) until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
